SPRING 2023 / REAL-LEADERS.COM 7 REAL LEADERS IMPACT AWARDS 2023 9. SUNRISE BANKS The mission of Sunrise Banks is to empower financial wellness. They offer traditional banking products and services, but their niche is developing innovative ways to ensure everyone has a fair stake in the financial industry. They partner with fintech companies to streamline the way consumers access and interact with their money. "As an impact leader, my job is to walk the talk and stick to our mission and values in everything I do," says CEO David Reiling. "Being an impact leader means making tough decisions and removing barriers so that my team and those we influence can focus on using their unique abilities to create positive impact. My biggest challenge has been convincing the corporate world that doing well financially and being a force for good aren’t conflicting narratives — in fact, your mission will add to your profit margins. I overcame this by setting an example: We have consistently increased profits while basing our business around closing the financial equity gap. Collaborative leadership is taking every viewpoint into account, from the C-suite to the teller. Every decision we make affects a great number of people, and we've realized that more input leads to better outcomes. I want to hear from our frontline workers about decisions at the bank; I also want to know how the community feels about these decisions. A diverse set of voices helps drive decisions representative of all stakeholders." HEALTHCARE 1. CVS Health 2. Smile Brands 3. Goodroot 4. Warriors Heart 5. Florence Healthcare 6. FUELCELL ENERGY FuelCell Energy has a vision to develop and deploy its technologies to empower the world with clean energy. Scientists at the University College London estimated in 2015 that globally, a third of oil reserves, half of the gas reserves, and over 80% of current coal reserves must remain unused between 2010 to 2050 to meet the target of limiting global warming to 2 degrees Celsius. The fuel cells by FuelCell Energy can produce low-carbon energy, capture carbon dioxide, and produce hydrogen. Its technology takes the electricity made by wind and solar, and stores it as hydrogen like a battery, which is used later at any time of day — regardless of the weather. "Collaborative leadership starts with building trust," says CEO Jason Few. "A cornerstone of that is operating with a high 'say/do' ratio, meaning that when you say you'll do something, you do. The best performing teams establish trust as well as the psychological safety to be candid when things go off course. I’ve found that these teams believe they will never lose alone. My biggest leadership barrier was getting the team aligned around a growth strategy when I joined as CEO in 2019. We created a vision and aligned on actions to stabilize the company; something we called the Powerhouse Business Strategy. We also created our 'why,' which we crafted as: 'To enable a world empowered by clean energy.' We needed to add oxygen to a clear purpose, and I believed that if we could tap into hearts and minds and generate a passionate urgency, we could help change the world with our technology." “I try to spend time with people outside of work who add to my life and whose lives I can add to. Warren Buffet has been quoted as saying, 'You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.' I want my average to be amazing.” — Jason Few, CEO, FuelCell Energy 1. Fortescue 2. FACILITIES MANAGEMENT SERVICE Facilities Management Service focuses on physical and financial health. Its flagship programs include Working Your Way Home, which dismantles barriers to home ownership for employees (9 new homeowners since 2021); Freshstop Markets, which provides fresh fruit and vegetables every other Friday during summer months for FMS employees and their families; Rideshare, which provides rides to and from work for folks without transportation, and Working Your Way to Wheels, which aims to provide car ownership to 50 employees over the next 18 months. Programs are designed to positively affect the physical and financial health of employees. "Being an impact leader means that I value our company's efforts around our social mission; as much as I value our operational and financial successes," says CEO Scott Koloms. "Helping our people and communities is a core component of remaining profitable and financially healthy for the long-term. My biggest leadership barrier was, and continues to be, learning to balance the needs of individuals and the needs of the organization. I don't think I'll ever overcome reflecting on and identifying boundaries in my efforts to be a transparent, authentic, and empathetic leader." “Our legacy won't be found in a profit and loss statement. It will be found in how we cared about the people we worked with that day in and day out.” — Scott Koloms, CEO, Facilities Management Service

SURECALL SureCall is a purpose-driven business process optimization company. In 2016, SureCall established the GoodCall program, which was integrated into the financial model of the business to take 2% of the top-line revenue for community projects. Its Hero Girls project is designed to educate and empower females in underserved and developing communities and has been running for five years in villages outside of Dang, Nepal, providing scholarships to girls and microloans to women’s groups. "Being an impact leader means taking the words in your vision and mission statements, and making them actionable, accountable, and meaningful, while bringing your team along with you," says CEO Desirée Bombenon. "I have faced many barriers, and being a female POC has created additional challenges. I overcame these by continuing to bump relentlessly against traditional norms and then proving that stakeholder capitalism doesn’t mean giving up profits for purpose. Collaborative leadership means every perspective has insight, that no one viewpoint is the only path forward. It’s understanding that all the people in the room have the right intentions. It’s moving forward with an idea even if it’s not yours, it’s challenging tradition and expecting the entire team to contribute; it's avoiding group think. Collaborative leadership is inclusive — not just the top executive — but all stakeholders, creating cross-functional integrated thought leadership. “Becoming a social impact leader has changed my life; moving from doing things right to doing the right thing has brought a quiet revelation that has allowed me to become not just a better leader, but a better person. Moral leadership creates a journey that inspires people to come along.” — Desirée Bombenon, CEO, SureCall
