Employee Happiness Department: Our experience at TCG led us to a strategic overhaul of the HR function over a decade ago. We created a new HR structure, splitting recruiting, employee engagement, and an HR department focused on compliance and hard benefits. This structure enhances both operational efficiency and employee satisfaction. In English, we blew up HR, sorted it, categorized it, moved the pieces to where they made the most sense, and ended up with the creation of the Employee Happiness Department, which, among other functions, ensures that TCGers have an opportunity to grow in their careers.

Our Vice President for Employee Happiness is focused on organizational development, employee experience, and relations. Reporting directly to the CEO, she addresses the need for a dedicated effort towards cultivating a positive workplace culture and ensuring employee engagement. Happiness’s remit includes learning and development, annual career discussions and goal-setting, community events, “soft” benefits, biannual engagement surveys, and having regular meetings with each employee. They’re accountable for retention – if someone quits, Happiness is expected to know why. The Happiness Department is the softer side of HR, the side that loves employees and wants them to stay with us forever.
