THE POWER OF TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP Transformational leadership is a fascinating concept and something that CEOs and world leaders should bring to the table. But what is it really? It’s no secret that leadership is complex and not for the weak-hearted. It’s also not for those with a morally bankrupt soul. Real leadership requires vision and someone committed to working to achieve betterment for those around them. Real leaders have a view toward a better future, and instead of focusing on their own benefits, they focus instead on the benefits of those they lead. Real leadership requires making difficult decisions, whether you are someone at the head of a corporation or a world leader. Real leaders must change or adapt their mindset to build a working trust among the people they are working with and those that their decisions will benefit or affect. Leadership is not about winning or getting your way. It is about having the ability and strength to compromise with others. Leaders should be committed, resolute, selfless, courageous, empathetic, forgiving, and above all else, they should believe in what they hope to achieve. If leaders don’t believe in something, why would anybody else? Transformative leadership is a style of leadership that creates change in individuals, companies, or social systems and revolves around a central organizing principle: genuine compassion. To achieve this, an appreciation of the web of human interconnection is needed, which helps give rise to a genuine concern for all. This type of leadership excludes the mix of cynicism and self-interest that seems to be a key motivating force of many present-day leaders. A transformative leader looks beyond the givens of today’s reality to offer a roadmap to a better future.
